Can you feel fall in the air? The leaves are starting to turn colors, the air is turning crisp…I love this time of year.

What better way to celebrate than to make some fall decor?

How To Make a Yarn Wreath with Felt Flowers

Supplies:

Glue Gun
Wreath Form (styrofoam, wrapped straw)
Yarn
Felt

Step 1: Get your wreath form and start wrapping your yarn around it. I just knotted my yarn on the backside of the form to start  but you could also glue it down. I thought the best strategy was to wrap tightly and close together for the first go round then, then second time around, I just covered the spots where the form showed through. You could also just wrap wide and sloppy and go around multiple times. Whatever look you want. Tie off the yarn or glue it down when you are done.  It should look something like this when it is done:

Step 2: Assemble your felt flowers. I made 3 different kinds.

Flower #1:

I just cut (5)  free-form flower shapes out of felt, each flower a little smaller than the last. I hot glued them together and added a button in the center

Flower #2:

Cut (5) felt circles the same size (I used sizes from 1/2 inch up to 4 inches across).

Take one circle. Fold it in half.

Fold it in half again.

Hot glue it down on one quarter of a circle. You will have to glue the middle of the circle down or it will pop open.

Repeat with the remaining (3) circles. Fluff the circles up.

For my biggest flower I added an additional folded circle to the very middle to fill it in a little better.

Flower #3: Pom Pom Flower.

Start with a circular piece of felt about 1.75 inches in diameter and a 12 inch by 1.5 inch strip of felt.

Fold the strip in half and glue along the long edge.

Cut one side multiple times along the entire length.

Hot glue the start of the strip onto the outer edge of the circle piece.

When you finish the first round, cut the strip and start again, covering the base of your first layer.  Keep doing this until you run out.

Glue the flowers on to your wreath, hang and enjoy!

Happy Fall!

I love this modern wreath. Wouldn’t it be fun to wrap it with ribbon or scraps of fabric, too.
