This month’s giveaway REALLY makes me wish I could enter because I love it! We are giving away one Marmalade charm pack, made by bonnie and camille for moda. They are cosy, adorable flannels that I am dreaming up some fun projects for.

All you need to do to enter is leave a comment answering this question:

– Chain-stitch your quilt blocks: you bet, or no way?Any reasons why?

(Just wondering because I like to chain but I was talking to someone at the Bernina store and they NEVER chain-stitch)

And as always leave another comment if you like us on Facebook for another entry!!

Be sure to enter before midnight on January 13th to be entered, when the winner will be randomly chosen.

Oops! I forgot to answer the question. I always chain stitch when I can. It just makes things move along so much fast and I think chain stitching uses less thread.

I always chain piece. Find it faster, even though I sometimes get things out of order. It doesn’t really matter because all of my quilts are scrappy anyway so as long as I don’t have the same fabrics toughing, it’s okay. Great giveaway this month. I love Marmalade.

I definately chain stitch. I use to quilt without chain stitching for years until someone taught me about it. I will never go back to the old fashion method. Chain stitching is faster and saves tons of thread.

Just love the process and do a piece at a time.
CON: I suppose it uses more thread not chain-piecing.

Sort of. I don’t use headers and enders, and I don’t just run stitches between sets, but I do leave all the sets connected until I’m done. I just raise my needle and pull the piece back a few inches before lowering my presser foot again and continuing.

I really like to chain my blocks because I think it saves on thread, and it is something that I can do fairly fast. I dislike getting that “thread wad” when I start piecing, and chain stitching eliminates this problem.
Love the fuzzy, pretty flannel charm packs too.
    Thanks!

I DON’T like to chain stitch, usually. For example, when I was making a quilt for my son using simple brick shapes, it drove me crazy to think that I would have to touch every single block again just to trim the threads and set them straight. I would much rather do it as I went, then by the time I was done sewing them, I was DONE. I didn’t have to touch them all again to trim and stack them. However, when I do dresdens, they don’t stack very well so I might as well chain stitch them. Clear as mud? : )

When it seems more time effective and I have lots of the same block to do, I will chain stitch. I do like having and inch or so of thread inbetween blocks though, just in case the thread is a little tight and puckery. That is a problem with my machine sometimes. It can save a lot of time chain stitching. I love the flannel charm pack and would love to make a quilt with it!!!

I always, always chain stitch whenever possible. I try to cut time wherever I can and chaining saves time. When you chain, you don’t have the stopping and starting, cutting threads, etc. Think how much time we waste anyway–so when I sew I want to maximize my time wherever I can.

I chain stitch when I can. It is faster and I like using less thread; less trimming thread tails. I like to see with my needle down–when you stop sewing, the needle stops in the down position. Then, in combo with the Freehand System that Bernina has, I can nudge my presser foot up, position the next patch, and take off for the next one. Less thread nests too, if chain-piecing.
