Well here it is a new year which means lots of fun new Block of the Month’s starting up and new classes! I should have the calendar all updated and ready by the end of today for you.

Here are some things to look forward to:

The “Modern” Farmer’s Wife – BOM

The Farmer’s Wife is a highly popular quilt book. You may have noticed a lot about it online.  We are making the quilt using fun, fresh new fabrics. Most of the patterns have been adapted so you can foundation Paper Piece them. Each month you will get the kits and the adapted pattern for 10 blocks. You will need to purchase the book. All 111 block patterns are put together into a queen size quilt. This is a super fun quilt and you will love the fabrics we are using for it!

My Sewing Room – BOM

You will definitely want to hang this cute wall size quilt in your sewing room. Wool appliqué pieces are appliquéd onto cotton backgrounds. There are fun pockets for you to fill with your sewing notions. This BOM will run for 6 months, Feb-July 2013. The first month is $35. The remaining 5 months will be $25. Binding and Backing will be available the last month of class. Don’t miss out on this really cute project!

In the Meadow We Can Build a Snowman – BOM

This is a super cute and cozy row quilt. The quilt has a variety of houses, snowmen, trees and pieced blocks. There is a lot of appliqué, but it is pretty simple shapes and some of the appliqué is wool. Come in and see the sample. This BOM will run for 10 months. The first month’s cost is $50 and includes the $30 pattern. Kits for the next 9 months are $20 each month.

A day in Giverny – BOM

This new 7 month BOM is done with fabric from the Moda “French General” line. If you like the red, gray and taupe in French General fabric, you will love this quilt. Each month will cost $25. There will be a short demonstration at 5 o’clock, the day of class. This is a fantastic quilt!

Prairie Women’s Sewing Circle

Come & join us for a 6-month journey into the lives of women who left their lives in the east to live on the prairie. Each month you will receive a fun pattern for a project that utilizes 1800’s reproduction fabrics. Share stories, recipes, quilting techniques, and get to know one another as we meet. Optional kits are available that are exclusive to “Sewing Circle” members. Cost of kits will vary. October through April. A new 6 month journey will begin in May, 2013.

Clothesline Club

We are ready to begin another year of Clothesline Club. This is our 1930’s club. Each month we will highlight a project or pattern that is reminiscent of the 1930’s. You will learn about the fabrics and interesting history from that decade as well as make lasting friendships. Each month is $10 and will include your pattern for the month. Please commit for 6 months at a time so we know how many patterns to order.

“My Soul is Fed by Needle & Thread” Stitching Society

This is a brand new club that focuses on “Handwork” and large “hexagons”. You will learn how to sew lots of embroidery stitches, appliqué with wool, english paper piece, & hand quilt during the year. Make several small easy projects or create a lovely heirloom quilt or do both! Each month you will receive a pattern that emphasizes specific stitches & skills. You will also receive a fun recipe, patterns for 15 different motifs (180 total) that can be used in the projects/quilt, as well as stitch instructions.

 

An Introductory class on February 27th is “no charge”. Come and see if it’s something you would like to try.

 

Come and join us in this new adventure as we create lasting friendships, taste yummy food, and have lots of fun while learning and refining handwork skills. Beginners are welcome. There will be a short lesson at the beginning of each class, and then we will learn the new stitches and sew during the remainder of class. Kits will be available for purchase and will vary in prices depending upon the project. The first official class (March 27th) fee is $20 & includes specialty rulers. Remaining classes for the year are $10 each month. Please pay for 1/2 of the year to secure your spot.

Graduate Class

In the past many students have taken Jeana’s yearlong classes and have partially completed quilts. Jeana is offering this class for these students only. Come join the fun! Classes are held the 3rd Thursday of each month, 2-3:45.

Simple Things

Jeana Kimball’s project this year features hand appliqué & machine piecing all combined in a spectacular quilt filled with everyday images. Hand appliqué, Jeana’s specialty will be the major focus. Each month students will receive several new appliqué designs. Lessons will feature classic poems and writers who’s thoughts give insight into living well and enjoying the journey of life. Class is held the 3rd Thursday of each month from 2-4 o’clock.

Scalloped Edges

Scalloped borders are all the rage. Come and learn the tips and tricks. It’s easy and looks extra special. Demo and information.

Wool Appliqué

If you have wanted to learn how to use wool and stitch with it, this is the class for you. Amy would like to focus on her Christmas stockings or the Nativity pattern, please bring your kit/pattern with you. Get started next years Christmas!

Beginning Piecing

This class is a 3-part class where you will learn so many things; cutting, pressing, seam allowance, how to use rulers, as well as sewing several different basic quilt blocks. You will start sewing your blocks in class and will have homework to complete each week. Even if you have sewn before, this is a great class where you will learn important piecing skills. Come into the shop prior (at least a few days before class) to choose the fabrics for your kit. February’s class will be a small quilt and April’s class will be a table runner. Notice that class on the first week is a 3 hour class with weeks 2 and 3 lasting 2 hours.

Scrap Basket

Come and learn how to use up all those scraps you have. Amy and Marilyn will give you TONS of ideas and share their sources and secrets for making scrap quilts. If you have scraps you want to share, please bring them and we will trade!

I Love Purses

Using a purse frame, you can make a purse to carry your keys, lipstick, phone, don’t forget some money, and go out on the town.  It will take two fat quarters, and your choice of a frame, which will be available at the store.  So if you like to make purses, you will like this class.

Binding

You will learn how to cut binding (both bias and straight), sew the strips together and sew your binding onto your quilt. Learn some of those tricky things, like how to make nice corners and how to put your ends together. You will also learn how to do the hand stitch to finish off all your lovely quilts. You will make a small sample to use as a future reference.

Foundation Paper Piecing

Come and learn how to paper piece. You will make a placemat in class. You will learn how to do this exact and fun method. You will also receive several additional patterns for you to practice on at home.

Traveling Circus

This is a three-part class where you will learn how to make “The Traveling Circus” project that is in Amy’s new book. You will need to purchase the book. A kit will be available for the “train car” bag as well as the adorable animals and clown to carry in the bag. Come and learn all the tricks to make this cute project from the designer. You will have homework each week that will need to be done in order to keep up with all the steps to complete the project. Time consuming but worth it!

Memory Quilt

    Where do I see the details on the Farmer’s Wife quilt-cost, dates, etc.

      By clicking on a “Farmer’s Wife” class on the calendar the details will come up, but I just realized the cost isn’t on there. Let me find out and I will do a post with pictures ASAP
