There are lots of fun classes coming up at American Quilting! It can be hard to decide whether to take a class or not, but it always helps if you can see a picture. Here are the latest pictures I have for most of the classes (you can also find pictures of classes that I have already posted by going to “Post Categories” on the side of the blog and clicking on “Block of the Month and Classes”):

The class in February will be a beginner technique class (teaching the stars) and the class in April will be an intermediate class (Buggy Barn experience needed!) for which you will make this ice cream cone. Beginning Piecing

This class is a 3-part class where you will learn so many things; cutting, pressing, seam allowance, how to use rulers, as well as sewing several different basic quilt blocks. You will start sewing your blocks in class and will have a cute table runner by the end. Even if you have sewn before, this is a great class where you will learn important piecing skills. Wool Appliqué– This 12-month BOM has four different quilt options for you to choose from. A Christmas quilt, Fall, Springtime and Folk Art. All four quilts are wool appliqué on cotton backgrounds. We have a photo of all four of these quilts in the shop. Each month you will pay $26 and get a kit for at least one of the blocks. The border fabrics are also included in this cost. It won’t matter which quilt you want to make, since the techniques are so similar for all four of the designs. We do need to know which quilt you want to do soon, so let us know. There is a $20 sign up fee for this class. If you pick up all 12 of your kits, throughout the year, you will receive a $20 gift certificate to use toward your backing fabric. Starts January 16th.

Machine Appliqué

Gloria will teach you an alternate technique to hand appliqué. This machine appliqué method does not involve your edges needing to be turned under but is washable and won’t fray. You will need to bring your own machine that has a blanket stitch. You will also need an “open toe foot” on your machine. A kit will be supplied. January 27th

Tuition-$15

Tricks with wool

If you already know how to appliqué with wool, you will want to go a little further and learn how to do lettering, embellishments etc for your wool projects. Amy will show you several “good to know” things about wool. April 5th.

Sweet & Simple– This Block of the month is an appliqué quilt that will make you smile. Thirty, 12” blocks make up this really folk-art feeling quilt. We will provide kits for 2-3 blocks per month. The color palette will be taken from 1800’s reproduction fabrics. There are several blocks that have embroidery details. You will be adjusting a few of the patterns to reflect your own family, life etc. A $20 sign-up fee is required and will be refunded to you in a gift certificate to be used toward your backing if you pick up all 12 months of kits. We will be really focusing on appliqué technique. If you have always wanted to perfect your appliqué skills, then this is the class for you! Starts January 23rd.
